TFE Spray Guard
SOLAS regulations require engine rooms and hot surfaces to be protected against hazardous spray outs from pipelines containing fuel or lube oil. These are generally considered as being joints and fittings such as flanges, valves, couplings etc.
The TYPE approved TFE Spray-Guards are made to exactly fit a specific joint such as flange, coupling, valve, elbow, tee or any special fitting. Since there is no seal, the shields can easily be removed for access to pipe-work during maintenance (or in the event of a leak) and re-installed, thus providing protection, often for the life of the vessel.
The shields are constructed from Teflon coated, multi-layered fibreglass with a central Teflon scrim for strength. This material is inherently resistant to Ultra-Violet radiation and is 100% fire retardant.
Each shield uses braided teflon-coated fibre glass draw strings. When tightened the fabric is drawn over the flange bolts to the pipe wall thus eliminating a lateral spray-out and providing a controlled leak.
Shields for standard flanges, valves, couplings, elbows and tee's are kept in stock. For these we only require pipe size and joint type.
